Welcome to the website of Better Hearing Australia (WA) Inc (BHAWA). We are the Western Australian Branch
of Better Hearing Australia, and we cover all areas of WA except the Albany area, which has a Branch
of its own. For more information on Better Hearing Australia nationwide, please see the
national web site.
Better Hearing WA is a volunteer-run charity which aims to improve the lives of adults with hearing
loss, as well as their families, friends and employers throughout the State. We assist people with almost
every kind of hearing loss, from people who have lost their hearing
due to ageing, right through to people with cochlear implants.
Our services for those with hearing loss include:
- Hearing Rehabilitation classes, which mainly focus on lip-reading;
- advice about adaptive technology for telephones, television and alarms;
- and provision of the Hearing Help card and Hospital Disc programs.
We are also dedicated to educating the wider community about all aspects of hearing loss. As such,
we regularly give presentations to a variety of community groups, from senior citizens to local councils
and educational institutions. These presentations can take a wide variety of forms, and are adaptable to
all ages and backgrounds. The annual Western Australian Clear Speech Awards, given to media outlets
and their presenters, are a highlight of our public education program.
